Why Choose TCM Restoration
Why Property Owners Choose TCM Restoration for Mold Remediation
Finding mold raises hard questions: how far has it spread, what’s feeding it, and is it safe for your family, tenants, or staff to stay? Our inspection allows us to identify the mold, determine a plan, and provide our best suggestion about whether it’s safe to stay. Then crews from our Anchorage and Palmer offices remove the growth, make sure the moisture source is fixed, and put the rooms back together.
Through an Alaska winter, moisture from a damp crawl space, condensation inside a cold wall, or an old roof leak can feed mold for months before anyone sees it. Our crews know where that moisture hides in buildings here, and we don’t close up a wall until the source is fixed and the area is dry.

How Mold Remediation Works
Our Mold Remediation Process
We inspect and estimate
We schedule a visit at a time that works for you, inspect the affected area, and explain what the job involves. When the mold is hidden, we test with air samples and surface swabs.
We find the moisture source and make sure it’s fixed
We use moisture meters to trace the water feeding the growth and make sure that source is fixed, because mold returns if the area stays damp.
We contain the area and remove the mold
We seal off the work area to keep spores from spreading to clean rooms, then cut out the drywall, insulation, and flooring the mold has ruined. Framing that’s still solid is cleaned and kept.
We dry and rebuild
If there’s a claim, your adjuster gets our repair estimate first. Once the area is dry, our construction team replaces the insulation, drywall, and flooring we removed, and you get back a finished room.

Restoration FAQs
Anchorage and Mat-Su Mold Remediation FAQs
When can moldy materials be cleaned instead of replaced?
When they’re hard surfaces. Wood framing, concrete, metal, and tile can be cleaned and kept. Drywall, insulation, ceiling tiles, and carpet are porous, so mold grows into them, not just on them, and anything with more than a small patch of growth has to come out. Mold can also grow on the back of drywall while the front looks fine, so we check behind the surface before deciding what stays.
Can’t you just spray the mold with bleach or paint over it?
No, because mold has to be removed, not just killed. Dead mold can still cause allergic reactions. Bleach may kill some of the growth but leaves it in place, and paint applied over mold usually peels. We remove the mold and the materials it ruined, then clean what’s left, so nothing is hiding behind the new paint.
Why is there mold in my attic, and how do you get rid of it?
Usually because warm, humid air is leaking up from the house. In winter, that moisture frosts on the cold roof sheathing, then wets the wood when the frost melts. Bath and kitchen fans that vent into the attic instead of outside are a common cause. We remove the moldy insulation, clean the mold off the sheathing and framing, and ensure the source, whether air leaks or fan venting, is fixed.
How do you get rid of mold in a crawl space?
In three stages, starting with sealing off the crawl space. That comes first because in winter, warm air rising through the house pulls air up from below and can carry spores and musty odors into the rooms above. Then we remove the moldy insulation, clean the joists and subfloor, and dry everything out. Last, we replace the insulation and ensure whatever kept the space damp is fixed. Often, that’s a missing or torn vapor barrier over the ground.
Is black mold removed differently than other mold?
No. Every type of mold is removed the same way. We seal off the area, take out the growth and the materials it ruined, and clean the space. Color doesn’t tell you what kind of mold it is, and the type doesn’t change the work. What changes our approach is mostly how much mold there is, so large or spreading growth gets stricter containment and protective gear.
How do you know the mold is really gone when you’re done?
We check for three things before any walls are closed up. The moisture problem has to be fixed, no visible mold or moldy material can be left, and the musty smell has to be gone. Rebuilding starts only after the area passes those checks.
